BOB times the show to music with

a patriotic SKYSHOW at Wyatt Earp's in Ramsey

Listen up for details!

Fourth of July thoughts:

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.  ~Elmer Davis

The American Revolution was a beginning, not a consummation.  ~Woodrow Wilson

You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  ~Erma Bombeck

Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed - else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.  ~Dwight D. Eisenhower

In the truest sense, freedom cannot be bestowed; it must be achieved.  ~Franklin D. Roosevelt

A statistician made a few calculations and discovered that since the birth of our nation more lives had been lost in celebrating independence than in winning it.  ~Curtis Billings

This, then, is the state of the union:  free and restless, growing and full of hope.  So it was in the beginning.  So it shall always be, while God is willing, and we are strong enough to keep the faith.  ~Lyndon B. Johnson

Freedom is nothing but a chance to be better.  ~Albert Camus

It is easy to take liberty for granted, when you have never had it taken from you.  ~Dick Cheney

America is much more than a geographical fact.  It is a political and moral fact - the first community in which men set out in principle to institutionalize freedom, responsible government, and human equality.  ~Adlai Stevenson

If our country is worth dying for in time of war let us resolve that it is truly worth living for in time of peace.  ~Hamilton Fish

I love my freedom.  I love my America.  ~Jessi Lane Adams

The United States is the only country with a known birthday.  ~James G. Blaine

We must be free not because we claim freedom, but because we practice it.  ~William Faulkner

How often we fail to realize our good fortune in living in a country where happiness is more than a lack of tragedy.  ~Paul Sweeney

Freedom is the oxygen of the soul.  ~Moshe Dayan

My patriotic heart beats red, white, and blue.  ~Author Unknown

Freedom is never free.  ~Author Unknown

There is nothing wrong with America that cannot be cured by what is right with America.  ~William J. Clinton

Fourth of July Lyrics

From every mountain side
Let Freedom ring.
~Samuel F. Smith, "America"

I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy, A Yankee Doodle do or die,
A real live nephew of my Uncle Sam, Born on the Fourth of July!
I’ve got a Yankee Doodle sweetheart, She’s my Yankee Doodle joy.
Yankee Doodle came to London, Just to ride the ponies.
I AM THAT YANKEE DOODLE BOY!
- George M. Cohan – from Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942)

You’re a grand old flag,
You’re a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You’re the emblem of, the land I love,
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev’ry heart beats true ‘neath the Red, White and  Blue,
Where there’s never a boast or brag.
But should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep you eye on the grand old flag.
- George M. Cohan, You’re A Grand Old Flag

God bless America, land that I love,
Stand beside her, and guide her,
Through the night, with the light from above,
From the mountains, to the prairies
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, my home sweet home,
God bless America! My Home Sweet Home!
- Irving Berlin, God Bless America

After 20 years with the radio station... Thank goodness his cake is younger than he is.

Happy Anniversary on 20 years to Neil Freeman from his friends and family at BOB-FM.

Jon Engen's back from his Pike's Peak trip. Chuck Knapp of Chuck and Jon in the Morning on BOB-FM is winding up his sabbatical in Alaska with his daughter, sends pix of the last few days...

Chuck sends back this shot from their plane flying over Denali...

Chuck and his daughter Anneva Boat tour the fjords! Bald eagles, 2 kinds of puffin, humpback whales, orcas, porpoises, seals, sea lions, purple sea stars, sea otters, glaciers and waterfalls...and more!  At 11PM at night it was still barely dusk.

Since Chuck is pointing to the 85 miles on the sign... I'm betting he didn't walk.

It wouldn't be an Alaska trip without moose pictures. I remember being in Anchorage and my wife was aghast that I was eating reindeer sausage.

At the home of the Iditerod Dog Races, Anniva holds a puppy as Chuck grabs the photo-op.

From E News:

Giant robot movie, indeed.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will score $112 million over the weekend, Paramount Pictures estimated today, bringing the sequel's overall take to a towering $201.2 million.

If projections hold, the five-day gross will go down as the second-largest in movie history behind only The Dark Knight, which sped to $203.8 million in the same time frame last summer.

It'll also neatly—and quickly—cover director Michael Bay's reputed $200 million production budget.

Revenge of the Fallen's Friday-Sunday performance gives Hollywood its first $100 million weekend winner of the year.

Here's how you make $201.2 million—fast:

You start off with a $60.6 million opening day. Follow it up with a $28.6 million

Thursday, then romp through the weekend with a $36.8 million Friday, a $40.6 million Saturday, and, if all goes according to projections, a $34.6 million Sunday.

Put it all together, and…well, The Dark Knight still holds the records for opening-day, three-day, four-day and five-day grosses.

Revenge of the Fallen did, however, establish some records of its own: biggest opener of Bay's blockbuster-rich career; biggest opener of Shia LaBeouf's brief, but blockbuster-rich career; biggest IMAX opening (169 screens) and biggest IMAX five-day gross ($14.4 million, topping Star Trek); biggest opener for a Transformers movie (Bay's 2007 original and the 1986 animated flick, included); and, biggest opener of the year for a movie with a, um, 20 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The next closest movie, The Proposal appears to be in the 18 mil range.

There's still an opportuntiy to qualfy to win BOB-FM's $8000 Patio Party Trailer... including the grille, kid's playset, and freezer full of meat. This picture was from the visit to National Repo Depot... Listen for times and locations where you can sign up to qualify & win as someone takes it home in the next couple of weeks.

The After-Father's Day story:

The story... behind the story...

Many of you heard this Father's Day piece about a year ago with Chuck and Jon in the Morning. Today you can find it on their special jock page on dothebob.com

But.... here's the story you didn't know.

A couple years back, my sister Rene, called from Iron Mountain MI to say she was having coffee with a friend, who was an emotional wreck one morning.

Her father had called the night b4, and asked her to go bowling.

She hated bowling. Said no.

Her father died that night.

She realized there'd been so many things gone unsaid.

It was touching, & moved my sister to write a poem, which she forwarded to us.

We sent the poem to a good radio friend, Charlie Van Dyke, who performed the voiceover, and we put it together with the Dan Fogleberg song, and it aired on over 300+ radio stations on that Father's Day.

It's as meaningful today as when it was created.

Proves even you can change the world... one day at a time.

It's hard to change the way people think 52 weeks a year, but a lady in Upper Michigan spoke to the world, through Charlie, Dan Fogleberg, and hopefully prompted some calls on Father's Day.

And now you know...

Kix answers a note from a listener:

Hi Kix!

You may have told this before, but can you tell us where you and Ronnie first met and how long were you together before you hit, as they say, the Big Time?  I’m a big fan of your music and wanted to hear it from you. Thanks and I love the countdown.
Signed, Jim

-----------------------------------------------------

Kix's Response:

Thanks Jim for asking…and here’s the story…

Ronnie and I were one of those Nashville arranged marriages, as they say, one of those deals that shouldn't work, but for some reason... - Ronnie and I had both had deals as Solo artists and not much had happened - I'd been writing songs here for other artists for about ten years and Ronnie was working clubs out in Ok, and we were both invited to lunch by a Record executive Tim Dubois - and he already had a solo boy singer named Alan Jackson who was doing pretty well - but he said he liked our music, and if we wanted to try and be a duo he thought it might work - we had literally never met each other - that was on a Tuesday - and Ronnie and I shook hands and agreed to see if we could write a song together.  And two days later, on Thursday we wrote "Brand New Man" and Friday we wrote "Next Broken Heart" and made a demo of the songs to play for Tim - he liked ‘em and gave us a "deal" and they turned out to be our first two number ones, and we've been riding a bus ever since - go figure!

Mike scores 5 stars for his company, Cellular Connection.

Puppies for Sale

author unknown

as heard on Jon Ritter's Jump Start Segment

on Rise-UP, Sunday morning's on BOB-FM.

A store owner was tacking up a sign above his door that read “Puppies for sale” The signs have a way of attracting children. Soon a little boy appeared at the sign and asked, “How much are you gonna sell those puppies for?” The store owner replied, “Anywhere from $30 - $50.” The little boy reached into his pocket and pulled out some change. “I have $2.37, can I look at them?” The store owner smiled and whistled. Out of the kennel came his dog named lady, running down the aisle of his store followed by five little puppies. One puppy was lagging considerably behind. Immediately the little boy singled out the lagging, limping puppy. He asked, “What’s wrong with that little dog?” The man explained that when the puppy was born the vet said that this puppy had a bad hip socket and would limp for the rest of his life. The little boy got really excited and said “That’s the puppy I want to buy!” The man replied “No, you don’t want to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I’ll give him to you.” The little boy got upset. He looked straight onto the man’s eyes and said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. He is worth every bit as much as the other dogs and I’ll pay the full price. In fact I will give you $2.37 now and 50 cents every month until I have him paid for.” The man countered, “You really don’t want to buy this puppy son. He is never gonna be able to run, jump, or play like the other puppies.” The little boy reached down and rolled up his pant leg to reveal a badly twisted, crippled left leg supported by a big metal brace. He looked up at the man and said, “Well I don’t run so well myself and the little puppy will need someone who understands.” The man was now biting his bottom lip. Tears welled up in his eyes … he smiled and said, “Son, I hope and pray that each and every one of these puppies will have a owner such as you.”

A Bad Cat day...

1. Take a 10-30 minute “Thank you” walk every day. While you walk practice gratitude. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.

3. Buy a TIVO, tape your late night shows and get more sleep—it’s the ultimate energizer.

4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement: My purpose is to___________ today.

5. Live with the 3 E's. Energy, Enthusiasm, Empathy.

6. Read more books than you did in 2008.

7. Make time to practice meditation, yoga, tai chi, qigong and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

8. Do the “one thing” you have always wanted to do.

9. Dream more while you are awake.

10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less foods that are manufactured in plants.

11. Mentor someone and be mentored by someone.

12. Engage in daily random acts of kindness.

13. Clear your clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing positive energy into your life.

14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the energy vampires away.

18. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements:
I am thankful for __________.
Today I accomplished____________.

19. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

20. Enjoy the ride. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy it.
